Akris Spring Summer 2010
The muted colour pallette in Albert Kriemler's collection for Akris is the perfect backdrop to his minimalistic approach at folds and cuts. I love the way that the silk effortlessly hangs on his column dresses, and the stiff white jackets shown throughout. It's refreshing to see a different take on spring, rather than the studded leather look that many desigenrs have been resorting to.

The beige coat is very Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, no?

IN THE DETAILS

You cannot deny that Karl Lagerfeld is a Renaissance Man. There are few things that he hasn't conquered, whether it be photography or design. His latest collection for Karl Lagerfeld is yet another example of his fine tuned senses. Though the clean lines and perfected tailoring maay suggest an obsessive compulsive at heart, his whimsical touch is still there. The invitations to his show featured "featured Mondino's classic shot of skinny Karl as guitar hero". His musical theme continued on to the details in his clothing, whether it was a hidden Karl jamming on his guitar in a coat lapel or to the obvious guitar bodies on the lunettes. There are few shows that I fully look at on style.com but I utterly devoured this collection. I can't wait to see what Karl has in store next at Chanel - if it is one half as charming as this collection, then I will be pleased.

The metal detailing on these dresses was stunning. I love the idea of making a pattern from embellishments.

KARL LAGERFELD SPRING SUMMER 2010
One can't deny that Karl Lagerfeld drew inspiration from his own style for this collection but there were some surprising references to Beethoven in the folds and volumes of the clothing ...

Jethro Cave by Edouard Plongeon

You should really pay a visit to Edouard Plongeon's site. The anonymous feel of his photos invoke such an unexplainable nostalgia. They are more than just portraits of his subjects. Edouard is one of the few photographers who manages to capture the images of his muses without interrupting their natural candor.

Living Like Weasels

“We could, you know. We can live any way we want. People take vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience--even of silence--by choice. The thing is to stalk your calling in a certain skilled and supple way, to locate the most tender and live spot and plug into that pulse. This is yielding, not fighting. A weasel doesn't "attack" anything; a weasel lives as he's meant to, yielding at every moment to the perfect freedom of single necessity.
I think it would be well, and proper, and obedient, and pure, to grasp your one necessity and not let it go, to dangle from it limp wherever it takes you. Then even death, where you're going no matter how you live, cannot you part. Seize it and let it seize you up aloft even, till your eyes burn out and drop; let your musky flesh fall off in shreds, and let your very bones unhinge and scatter, loosened over fields, over fields and woods, lightly, thoughtless, from any height at all, from as high as eagles.”

All You Need Is Love

It doesn't matter that their love affair was one of the more tumultuous of our times, with him writing letters in her blood and her lured into the rock and roll world of drugs. But I still find Pete and Kate to be the most beautiful couple

Self Portraits

I love self portraits with cameras. There is something so cheeky in hiding a photographers face, yet letting the viewer in on their surroundings. Its almost as if they are taking a picture of their audience.

Peeling Potatoes

I've always loved this image not because of its main subject, the potatoes (although they can be quite fascinating at times) but for the wrinkles on my mothers hands. I find them so incredibly beautiful.

These Bloody Days

These bloody days have broken my heart,
My lust, my youth did them depart.
For your wit alone many men would bemoan,
And since it is so, many still cry aloud.

It is a great loss that you are dead and gone,
A time you had above your poor degree,
Before whereof your friends may well bemoan,
A rotten twig upon so high a tree has slipped your hold
And you are dead and gone.

These bloody days have broken my heart,
My lust, my youth did them depart.
And blind desire of ambitious souls,
Who haste to climb seeks to revert and about the throne,
The thunder rolls.

These bloody days have broken my heart...

Caught

Warning - there will be some deep hippy middle of the day rambling in this post, so read on at your own will ... have you made up your mind? Still going to read on? Ok, bless your soul, here is the rambling. Do you ever have that moment? That one moment where you are so lost in your everyday work, your stressful thoughts, spinning in chaos, rushing somewhere when you just stop. Something catches your attention and makes you think: wow ... life is good. They should have a name for this feeling. Like catch and release. Something just snaps you awake but then lets you float in serenity. For me, it was the light. To be exact, the light through the orchids. I was rushing up and down all around my house, when the light just stopped me in my tracks - for lack of better words. And then ... everything was ok. I was caught, and released. Ok ... Life is good.

Orchids by you.
Orchids by you.
Orchids by you.

Camera Porn

A new segment to quench my unsatiable thirst for a Leica camera. For now, I'm broke as shit and can't afford to even gaze at one for too long, but for those moments when I lose hope in raising funds, I will just look at Leica porn.Jesus, I hope Blogger doesn't place a content warning on my blog ...

Open Book

School has started and that means its time to go back to reality. I cant stress how much this blog will be a needed escape from everyday life, the single place where I can rave blindly of Dries van Noten and be understood. But I also can not stress the importance ... hmm, maybe I should work on this ancient concept of writing I have not used since the end of schoo. What I mean to say is that this is the this final school year, the home run, the final hurrah, if you will. The awkward adolescent years are almost over and I have my eye on Oxford University, a major in English and maybe one day a career as an editor ... So an ode to Oxford, in form of a beautiful flickr book shot.

Hallucinations

Tim Barber is one of the few photographers who can actually produce sighs from his viewers. With the risk of sounding like a Hallmark card, he literally takes my breath away. Barber's photographs of even the most mundane objects are mystic in nature and a constant play of light and shadow are overwhelming, in the best possible sense. For more of his work visit his newly launched site.
